The Dead and the Gone by Susan Pfeffer is the second book of The Last Survivors series.
Alex is a seventeen-year-old boy living in New York City. When the asteroid hit the moon, causing world-wide chaos and hardships, Alex's parents don't return. His father, Papi, was in Puerto Rico for a funeral when the asteroid hit and his mother was working her job in a hospital. With his parents gone, Alex has to take care of his younger sisters, Julie and Bri. Food is scarce, there are many floods, volcanic ash pollutes the air. People are dropping like flies. Alex is forced to do things for the best, whether he likes it or not.
8/10 This book was even more depressing than Life as we Knew it. It was still really good though. The Dead and the Gone is also told in diary entries, but from a third person omniscient point of view. This confused me at first, but when I Googled the book, it says that Susan Pfeffer couldn't imagine a seventeen-year-old boy keeping a diary. I can't say I can argue. Another thing to mention is that this book isn't a follow up to Life as we Knew it. It tells another person's life after the asteroid hit the moon. I really liked this book nonetheless.
